The Chemistry of Life Processes Institute’s Interdisciplinary Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (I-SURE) is designed to build a more diverse interdisciplinary biomedical workforce and create a stronger path to STEM careers for students from underserved communities.

I-SURE partners with local majority-minority institution Northeastern Illinois University to provide their students with interdisciplinary research training and mentorship opportunities in CLP laboratories. The 8-week summer program Enables students to gain research skills and confidence, provides insight into research careers, and improves readiness for postgraduate education and employment.

The program also creates a conduit for diverse talent to Northwestern graduate programs and the CLP Predoctoral Training Program.

A local majority-minority institution located on Chicago’s northwest side, NEIU is a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution and has been ranked No. 1 among all Midwest colleges and universities as the most diverse by the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Ranking.
