ChemCore-Medicinal Chemistry Project Manager

The Chemistry of Life Processes Institute (CLP) at Northwestern University invites applications for the position of ChemCore Project Manager. This is a senior position that is responsible for implementing the strategic objectives for preclinical drug development of the Institute with the guidance of director Karl A. Scheidt, PhD. CLP Chemistry Services provides Northwestern researchers with the expertise needed to advance translation of small molecules. This position requires a unique combination of scientific expertise and experience, organizational and communications capabilities, and interpersonal skills. It offers an opportunity to be the fulcrum of small molecule development and bridge the gap between the life sciences and chemistry.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Project Manager:

  • Work with the Director to help set research and scientific priorities so that they align with overall mission and goals.
  • Provide concierge service for Northwestern faculty in establishing scope of work and the medicinal and synthetic chemistry services needed to meet project objectives and then working directly with contract research organizations (CROs) to fulfill those objectives.
  • Support Northwestern faculty across schools and departments in project design and development of medicinal and synthetic aims of grant applications.
  • Determine which synthetic chemistry projects should be addressed by the local resource pool.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in organic chemistry, pharmacology or other adjacent field related to the work of Chemistry Services.
  • At least three years of experience in managing drug development projects. Industry experience is a plus.
  • A high degree of self-motivation, organization, communication. high competence in solving complex problems, as well as the ability to navigate a fast-paced cross-functional and collaborative work environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Extremely organized, self-driven, mature, flexible, and committed to excellence.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Previous management experience in an academic/research institution is an asset.
