A chalk talk is a short 15-20 minute presentation given in front of a chalk board or in our case a dry erase board. The purpose is to present key ideas and concepts to better understand the vision of the research.
Dr. Andersen will be presenting about his research - "Drugs don't affect everyone equally - individualized genetics and genomics of drug responses"

Registration
Different people vary in their responses to drugs and treatments. This variation decreases efficacy and alters side effects.
Typically, studies to identify the genes that cause variation in these responses are difficult (if not impossible) to identify in humans. I will present our methods to identify conserved genes using the tractable nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. These worms enable high-throughput approaches to understanding human biology. Please come chat about how genetic variation should be incorporated into drug screening and efficacy paradigms.
Professor Andersen will present his talk in Silverman Hall, 3rd Floor Atrium on the Northwestern Evanston Campus. The meeting will also be broadcast live via Zoom.
