Research about a potential drug target for the coronavirus will be the focus of Northwestern’s High Throughput Analysis Core’s (NU-HTA) first User Spotlight Seminar on Tuesday, July 27, at 12:00 p.m. at the Feinberg School of Medicine. HTAL user Monica Rosas Lemus, PhD, Postdoctoral Researcher in the Center for Structural Genomics of Infectious Diseases (CSGID), Feinberg School of Medicine, will discuss her NU-HTA-enabled research on metal ions and a unique insert she and fellow collaborators identified that enables  efficient RNA capping by the SARS-CoV-2 2-O-methyltransferase. Their findings, featured in last month’s issue of Science Signaling, suggest this site as a potential target for the design of coronavirus-specific methyltransferase inhibitors.

The High Throughput Analysis Core (NU-HTA), a Chemistry of Life Processes Institute-affiliated facility, is a shared, open-access resource that provides equipment and expertise for the development and execution of high throughput biological analysis and screening. The facility is fully equipped with state-of-the-art liquid handling and microplate detection instrumentation.
