Seven Chemistry of Life Processes Institute-affiliated cores were recognized with 2020 Core Facilities Service Excellence Awards (SEAs) by the Office for Research at Northwestern. The user facilities were among 25 selected university-wide for general excellence in governance, resource management, user satisfaction, innovation and outreach.

Each awardee scored as either “Outstanding” or “Excellent” in at least five of the eight criteria that the Office for Research’s Core Facilities Administration uses to evaluate cores.

The CLP-affiliated Cores Recognized with 2020 Awardees are:

The development and growth of core facilities has been a key strategy in the CLP mission of accelerating the development of new therapeutics and diagnostics. The managers of these facilities have built strong teams that provide in-depth, expert support for method development, sample preparation, experimental design and rigorous data analysis. In addition, they provide training in new instrumentation, write grant applications for external funding to acquire cutting-edge instrumentation, and provide technical support to faculty in development of methods sections of grant applications.

From advanced nanoscale imaging platforms to sophisticated computational modeling of drug target interactions, CLP’s affiliated cores offer a deep bench of tools for discovery, analysis, and visualization. These technologies and the expertise of core technical staff has accelerated our understanding of the molecular underpinnings of diseases, such as cancer and Alzheimer’s, to name just a few, and have led to advances in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Our congratulations to all the winners!
