A primary component of the Institute’s mission is to provide state-of-the-art Research Centers and shared instrumentation, and specialized expertise in the areas of molecular imaging, top-down proteomics research, small molecule discovery and computational modeling. The goal is to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration built upon shared resources.
The Institute plays a key role in the development of these centers through aiding in the recruitment of center directors and managers, planning, coordinating and writing grant applications for federal funding of center research activities and instrumentation, and by providing seed funding for center development. In addition, the Institute provides administrative support and oversees the financial and human resources operations of the Centers.
Centers of Excellence:
- Center for Developmental Therapeutics
Project management and consulting services for therapeutic translational projects. The Center works in collaboration with the Innovations and New Ventures Office to facilitate commercialization of therapeutic technologies.
- Center for Molecular Innovation & Drug Discovery
Provides a collaborative research platform and educational opportunities that integrate biologists and chemists to enhance interdisciplinary drug discovery research.
- Northwestern Proteomics
Develops and applies tools to analyze proteins using mass spectrometry. The Center focuses on the continuous innovation of technology to meet growing demands for analysis of proteins, specializing in intact protein analysis; while handling multiple projects large and small.
- Chicago Region Physical Science Oncology Center
Multi-investigator team science intiative organized around the conceptual framework that addresses the spatio-temporal organization of chromation and the information transfer in cancer.
