Job Summary:

The Quantitative Bio-element Imaging Center (QBIC, is seeking exceptional candidates for a research technologist II position to meet the expanding needs of QBIC. QBIC is a shared instrumentation research facility that focuses on trace metal analysis and quantitative elemental mapping of a wide variety of sample types ranging from single cells to complex materials. The center is part of the transdisciplinary Chemistry of Life Processes Institute (CLP, whose mission is to use interdisciplinary approaches to generate transformative scientific advances in ways that traditional, single-discipline methodology cannot. In order to support CLP’s mission, QBIC provides top notch instrumentation (including confocal and 2-photon microscopy, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, GFAAS, LA-ICP- MS, HPLC-ICP- MS, and microwave sample digestion) and expertise to aid cutting edge research on a variety of trace metal analysis and quantitative mapping platforms. Ongoing projects involve research teams in the Feinberg School of Medicine, McCormick School of Engineering, Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, and the International Institute for Nanotechnology as well as industrial partners.

Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Materials Science, or a related field

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience in instrumental and analytical methods, experimental design, and computer analysis
  • Proficient in sample preparation for trace metal analysis, spectroscopic techniques, mass spectrometry and chromatography
  • Mechanically inclined in troubleshooting and maintaining analytical instruments
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe software suites
  • Must be able to stand continuously for up to 8 hours, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Full-time, M-F; hours may vary with project needs
